TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State women's basketball head coach
Joey Wells has announced Wednesday (Nov. 8) that four players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Sycamores during the 2018-19 season.
The Sycamores received letters from Breanna Boles (Lapel, Ind./Lapel HS), Janara Flowers (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western HS), Daijah Smith (Gary, Ind./Lighthouse College Prep Academy) and Michaela White (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike HS).
"Our 2018 recruiting class is very athletic and will bring significate height and a high basketball IQ to the Sycamores Family," head coach
Joey Wells said. "Their work ethic and knowledge of the game is second to none and I'm extremely proud of the recruiting class and I look forward to the years to come for our program"
Breanna Boles – Lapel, Ind. - Lapel HS – Forward – 6-3
Boles will join the Sycamores after a standout career at Lapel High School as well as two seasons with the Lady Gym Rats AAU program. She brings with her Madison County Player of the Year accolades as well as being named to the All-State and All-County Teams. Boles is a multi-sport student-athlete, also playing softball at Lapel HS.
Coach Wells on Boles - "Breanna is a stretch four that will bring many options to our motion offense. She is a perfect pick and pop player with a high basketball IQ."
Janara Flowers – Southfield, Mich. - Walled Lake Western HS – Guard – 5-9
A combo guard out of Southfield, Michigan, Flowers will bring with her a skillset to play both the offensive and defensive side of the ball for the Sycamores. She has played two seasons with the Michigan Storm AAU program, earning Windy City Classic honors in 2016 as well as accolades at the Adidas Gauntlet and Memorial Day Challenge. She was named to the PSB Elite 32 in 2017. High School honors include All-KLAA Lakes Conference honors three-straight seasons from 2014-2017. She was also named to the Detroit Free Press Class A All-State honorable mention team.
Coach Wells on Flowers - "Janara is a quick and tenacious guard that can play on both ends of the floor. She will bring her defensive knowledge to keep us in the top ranks on the defensive end."
Daijah Smith – Gary, Ind. - Lighthouse College Prep Academy – Guard – 5-11
Smith comes to Tree Haute after four seasons of basketball at Lighthouse College Prep Academy. She led the squad to three sectional titles and leads the program in all-time points, steals, rebounds, assists and blocks. Smith scored 1,400 points in her career and was named to the all-area team three times.
Coach Wells on Smith - "Daijah is a long and athletic athlete that can play multiple positions. She handles the ball well and has a nice stroke from behind the arc."
Michaela White – Indianapolis, Ind. - Pike HS – Forward – 6-0
White led the George Hill Rising Stars AAU program to four Tournament Championships over a three-year period. White is a four-year letterwinner at Pike High School where she led the team to a sectional championship in 2015 before powering the squad all the way to a state runner-up finish in 2017. She was named a Junior All-Star as well as an All-State honoree in 2017. Earned Supreme 15, Subway USA Player of the Month, All-USA by American Family Insurance as well as All-MIC. White led her team in rebounding, blocked shots and double-doubles and was the fifth leading scorer in the MIC in 2017.
Coach Wells on White - "Michaela is a versatile and athletic player that make her presence known in the paint. She looks to score with her back to the basket and knows how to rebound."
The Sycamores open the regular season Friday when they welcome Saint Louis University to the Hulman Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET.
