TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Indiana State sophomore Kiya James was named to the Best Western Sycamore Classic All-Tournament team following a vote of the coaches from the participating teams, it was announced today.
James had 55 digs (3.44 digs per set average) and was a key ingredient to the Sycamores first win of the season, a 3-2 victory over SIU Edwardsville on Saturday in the final game of the Best Western Sycamore Classic.
The Sycamores finished 1-3 in the tournament with senior Jodilynne Stoker recording 38 kills (2.38 kills per set), senior Kelli Whitaker 34 kills (2.12 kps) and sophomore Stacy Qualizza 32 kills (2.00 kps). Senior Whitney Fromm had 131 set assists (8.19 assists per set) and senior Stephanie Volden had 13 blocks (0.81 per set).
The University of North Dakota swept through the competition to win the tournament title with a perfect 4-0 record. The University of Akron was second with a 3-1 record while the University of Missouri-Kansas City was third at 2-2. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville was 0-4 in the tournament.
North Dakota’s Erin Joki was named the Most Valuable Player in the Classic and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Devin Trefz and Megan Langseth. Also on the team were Akron’s Brionna Patterson and Liz Martin, UMKC’s Kelsey Knoche and SIUE’s Sydney Winslow.
