TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State head coach Mike Sanford has completed his 2013 coaching staff with the addition of Sycamore Football alum Aaron Archie as the program's linebackers coach.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Aaron onto our coaching staff after a standout career with the Sycamores," head coach Mike Sanford said. "With his background and success on the field as a linebacker, he will do an excellent job coaching our linebackers here at Indiana State."

Archie completed a standout career for the Sycamores in 2012 as he earned First Team All-MVFC honors for the second year in a row and finished his Sycamore career by being named an all-league player during each of his four seasons. He led the team with 128 total tackles, including 49 solos and 79 assists. Archie finished his career with 426 total tackles, a new Indiana State school record. As a senior, he led the team with 10 tackles for loss, with four pass breakups, one quarterback hurry and a forced fumble. He recorded double digit tackles in 10-of-11 games this season, including a best of 15 against Missouri State.

He was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2011 as a junior after he led the Sycamores in tackles and finished in a tie for 12th nationally and second in the conference with 122 stops. Archie put together his best game of the season against Youngstown State, recording a season-high 18 tackles with 2.5 for loss and two sacks.

Archie was an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2010 as a sophomore when he tallied 60 total tackles, including 31 solo stops. He had a season-high 17 tackles against Missouri State and posted three games with 10 or more tackles. He was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team as a redshirt freshman in 2009 and was also an All-MVC Second Team selection at linebacker. He played and started in all 11 contests for the Sycamores as the middle linebacker and led the team with 117 total tackles, including 52 solo stops. Archie sat out the 2008 campaign after a season-ending knee injury during preseason camp.

Archie came to Indiana State from Cass Tech in Detroit, Mich., where he was named to the all-city team as a junior and also earned Junior All-State honors during the same season. He was a second team all-city selection as a senior. Archie posted 142 tackles, plus five interceptions and a pair of returns for touchdowns as a junior and then recorded 166 tackles as a senior, plus a pair of quarterback sacks. He was credited with 47 tackles for loss during his career.

Archie is a 2013 graduate of Indiana State.

The Sycamores will begin preseason camp on August 1 in preparation for the 2013 season opener at Indiana on August 29. The game versus the Hoosiers is slated for a 7:00 p.m. (ET) kick-off and will be televised nationally on The Big Ten Network.
