TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State baseball team completed the sweep of their six-game homestand on Tuesday, scoring in five of the first six innings en route to a 10-2 victory over SIU Edwardsville on Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium.

The Sycamores swept their six-game homestand over the past week, extending their winning streak to seven games while coming out on top in 12 of their last 13 games overall. The loss drops the Cougars to an even 8-8.

SIU Edwardsville scored first on Tuesday, getting three straight hits with one out in the first inning to tally their run. The Cougars could have had at least one more run in the inning, as senior Zach Hawkins hit a fly ball to freshman Landon Curry in centerfield that brought sophomore Mitch Matecki home from third, but Matecki was ruled to have left early when the Sycamores appealed.

Indiana State took the lead in the bottom half of the first inning, taking advantage of an error by SIUE starting pitcher Drew Staples to score four runs, three of which were unearned. Redshirt junior Koby Kraemer attempted a bunt to reach first base with one down that Staples fielded, but the left-handed pitcher threw the ball all the way to the right field bullpen and allowed Kraemer to advance the third. Junior Robby Ort brought Kraemer home with a single to left when he came up next and was followed by RBIs from seniors Jon Hedges, Kyle Burnam and Ryan Walterhouse to give ISU a 4-1 lead after one inning.

The Sycamores got a sacrifice fly from Ort in the second, run scoring plays from Ort, Hedges and Burnam in the fourth, an RBI groundout from senior Jeff Miera in the fifth and an RBI single from Burnam in the sixth to go up 10-1 after six innings of action and cruise to their seventh consecutive victory.

Freshman Kyle Rupe (3-0) allowed just one run over five innings on Tuesday, scattering seven hits with two strikeouts on 66 pitches. Senior Brandon Dorsett, sophomore Kurt Kudrecki, junior Devin Moore and redshirt sophomore Tyler Browning combined to allow just two hits over the final four innings.

Burnam led ISU with three hits and three RBIs, while Ort also tallied three RBIs in a 2-for-2 effort at the plate.

Indiana State travels to San Antonio, Texas, for the 2012 Irish Classic at the end of the week, playing on Thursday through Sunday in the tournament hosted by Notre Dame. The Sycamores open the tournament against Kansas on Thursday with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. (ET).
