ST. LOUIS, MO. – Indiana State sophomore Sarah Meghoufel (Oran, Algeria) and freshman Anna Morgina (Moscow, Russia) have been named to the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference All-Select All-Conference team in tennis.

Meghoufel was 7-1 in Valley play this year at No. 1 singles and had won 15 straight Missouri Valley regular season matches before suffering a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Southern Illinois’ Fadzai Mawisire in the final match of the season. Mawisire was named the MVC Player of the Year and All-Conference at the No. 1 singles position after finishing 8-0 in conference play.

Morgina was also 7-1 in MVC play this year at No. 2 singles, her only loss coming to Wichita State’s Lutfiana Budiharto 6-4, 6-2. Budiharto finished the 2009 regular season at 8-0 and was named All-Conference at the No. 2 singles position.

Wichita State, who won the league’s regular season title this year with an 8-0 mark, took eight of the nine all-conference positions. The Sycamores were second in the league with a 6-2 mark.

ISU junior Sofya Lifanova also finished 7-1 in the Valley this season at No. 3 singles but did not make the team as did Sycamore freshman Elmine Botes, who was 6-2 in the MVC at No. 4 singles.

Indiana State’s No. 2 doubles team of Lifanova and Morgina, who finished the conference season at 7-1, were also left off the All-Conference selections. The Sycamore duo’s only loss of the season came in their first conference match of the season as they lost to Illinois State 8-4 in their only appearance of the conference season at No. 1 doubles. They finished the season with seven straight wins at No. 2 doubles.

The Sycamores begin competition in the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships today in Omaha, Neb., taking on Northern Iowa in a 1:30 p.m. (ET) match. The Indiana State men also play today, taking on Wichita State in a 4:00 p.m. (ET) match.
