Sarah Meghoufel, Michael Wenham Are Named MVC Scholar-Athletes In Tennis

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Indiana State sophomore Sarah Meghoufel and Sycamore senior Michael Wenham were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, it was announced today by the league office.


Meghoufel was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete first team while senior Michael Wenham was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Honorable Mention Team.


Meghoufel, who has a 3.43 GPA while majoring in Aviation at Indiana State, was selected in her first year of eligibility for the award (freshman are not eligible). Meghoufel received several post-season awards after her freshmen season including being named the 2008 MVC Freshman of the Year, MVC All-Conference at No. 2 singles, and a 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic All-American.


Wenham, who has a 3.94 GPA while majoring in Psychology at Indiana State, was named to the Scholar-Athlete team for the third straight year, becoming just the third ISU men’s tennis player to be named three straight years (Stefan Hirn 2000-2002 and Jonas Piibor 1999-2001). He is also a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic All-American (2007 and 2008).


To be selected, an athlete must meet performance standards to be eligible for selection. A student-athlete must hold at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA, be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, and have participated in 75% of the regular season or projected participation in the MVC Championship to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
