WICHITA, Kan. – The Sycamore volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Wichita State Friday as the Shockers topped Indiana State 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-15) in a Missouri Valley Conference contest.
Indiana State (11-14 overall and 4-9 in the Valley) will play one more on the road this weekend as they visit Missouri State on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wichita State improved to 22-6 overall and 11-3 in Valley action.
The Sycamores kept the opening set close early on with kills by Willis, Thomas and Victoria Swigart keeping Indiana State even with the Shockers at six all. Wichita State broke that tie with a 7-0 run and went on to defeat the Sycamores 25-10 in the opening set.
Indiana State had to battle back from a slow start in the second set as they found themselves down 7-1 before rallying and tying the set at 12 on a Taylor Reckards service ace. Wichita State regained control after that, scoring five straight points and going on to win the second set 25-15.
The third set was all Wichita State as the Shockers jumped out to a 5-0 advantage and the Sycamores could not battle back as they lost the set 25-15 and the game three sets to none.
