TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State basketball team joined forces recently with numerous other Sycamore athletics programs to donate blood at the Indiana Blood Center in honor of Super Sycamore Fan Kaylee Willman.
"Giving blood was a wonderful experience for our guys," Sycamore Basketball Head Coach Greg Lansing said. "To see young Kaylee fighting a very difficult disease and beating it is an inspiration to us all. Her courage and toughness is a lesson for our team."
Kaylee (seen with Sycamore Basketball coaches and student-athletes at the Indiana Blood Center in the photo gallery below) is the granddaughter of Paul and Elaine Thomas of Terre Haute. Additionally, she is the daughter of Ryan and Amy Willman, who both graduated from Indiana State in 1999 and met during their time together participating in the Sycamore Marching Band.
“Our guys donate a lot of the “little” free time that they have to help out in the community," Sycamore basketball head coach Greg Lansing said. "All of our athletic teams do at Indiana State. Last year our team won the “Community Service Award” on campus by being the team that did the most in our community of any team. It’s the only trophy or plaque on our locker room wall. We take great pride in it.”
The Sycamore basketball team encourages all Sycamore fans to join them in helping out Kaylee by donating at the Indiana Blood Center, located at 2021 South 3rd Street in Terre Haute. Fans are reminded to indicate that they wish to join the Sycamores in donating in honor of Kaylee Willman when they check in. Those wishing to donate in her honor around the state of Indiana may also do so at any Indiana Blood Center.
Sycamore fans may remember the story of Kaylee Willman from this past spring as she was honored as part of the annual "Locks Of Love" event at Memorial Stadium hosted by the ISU Women's Soccer program. To revisit Kaylee's full story, check out this video produced by Sycamore Athletics back in April of 2013.
The Indiana State Basketball Team will continue to support Kaylee and her family and look forward to having her cheer on the Sycamores inside Hulman Center this coming season!
