Emily Dixon, Amanda Smith Named MVC Women's Golf Scholar-Athletes

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State senior Emily Dixon and sophomore Amanda Smith were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete team it was announced Thursday by the league office.

 

Dixon was named to the first team for the second time and carries a 3.97 grade point average (GPA) while majoring in Athletic Training at Indiana State. The senior competed in her final MVC Championship this year and tied for 37th with rounds of 85, 89 and 93 for a 267 total.

 

She entered the MVC Championship with a 79.50 average through 18 rounds this season with 11 rounds in the 70s and finished in top 20 in six of eight tournaments this season, She led Indiana State to the team title at the CSU Cougar Classic with a second place finish, placed fourth at BSC Ann Rhoads Invitational and recorded a low round of 74 twice during season.

 

Dixon was a member of Athletic Director’s Honor Roll every semester eligible, named to NGCA All-Scholar Team three times (2010, 2011, 2012), a member 2013 Indiana State All-Academic team, and was recently named 2013 Female Presidential Scholar Athlete of the Year at Indiana State. She was also named to MVC Academic Honor Roll and received the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award.

 

Smith was named to the Honorable Mention team and carries a 3.48 GPA while majoring in Sport Management at Indiana State. The sophomore tied for 21 st at the 2013 MVC Championship as she opened the tournament with a pair of 83s and shot an 85 in the final round to finish with a 251 total.

 

She entered the MVC Championship with a team best 78.9 average through 16 rounds this season with 12 rounds in the 70s. Smith finished among the top 20 in five of seven events this season including the last three tournaments before the conference championship. She recorded a low round of 73 and placed fourth at Butler Invitational while also finishing ninth at the SMSU Spring Invitational.

 

Smith is a member of Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, was named to the 2012 NGCA All-Scholar Team, and was also named to MVC Academic Honor Roll.

 

MVC Champion Katie Jean of Illinois State was the only other selection who has been on the first team more than once with 2013 marking her third appearance. Also named to the first team were Emma Clegg of Missouri State, Thea Hedemann of Bradley, Hadley Jennings of Drake, and Cassie Rushing of Southern Illinois.

 

Joining Smith as Honorable Mention were Celeste Gassman of Creighton, Shaina Rennegarbe of Southern Illinois, and Hollie Weatherburn of Wichita State.
