TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State women's basketball team will make their first postseason appearance since the 2005-06 season this Thursday, March 21, as the Sycamores will face Youngstown State in Youngstown, Ohio, in the Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
Indiana State finished the regular season at 18-12 overall, tying for fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 10-8 mark within the league. ISU's 18 wins are their most since the 2006-07 season (ISU finished 19-11) and their 10-win MVC season is their best since 2008-09 (ISU finished 10-8 in the MVC).
Indiana State went 1-1 in their last trip to the postseason, defeating Eastern Michigan (79-57) on March 16, 2006, inside Hulman Center before falling at home to Indiana (68-62) on March 20, 2006. The Sycamores last played a road game in the WNIT on March 11, 1999, falling 80-43 at Wisconsin.
Youngstown State finished the regular season at 22-9 overall and 11-5 in the Horizon League, good for second place in the conference. Senior Brandi Brown leads the Penguins this season, averaging 20.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
If the Sycamores were to advance, they would face the winner of Toledo and Butler on March 23-25.
The Sycamores are one of three teams from the MVC to be selected to the WNIT, along with Illinois State and Northern Iowa.
Tickets are on sale at the Hulman Center Ticket Office until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and will be available through the Youngstown State Ticket Office after that. Reserved seats are $10 while general admission tickets are $7.
