TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Despite leading early, the Indiana State men's basketball team (17-12, 9-8 MVC) fell 67-56 to the Bulldogs of Drake University (14-15, 7-10 MVC) Wednesday inside Hulman Center.

After a scoreless first three minutes, junior RJ Mahurin got the Sycamores on the board first with a three-pointer from the top key. The Bulldogs answered with a basket of their own before junior Dawon Cummings hits a layup and three pointer, split around a Drake jumper, to give the Sycamores an 8-4 lead with just over 14 minutes to go in the half.

Junior Lucas Eitel gave the Sycamores a boost off the bench when he hit a trey off an assist by junior Jake Odum to give the Sycamores a 12-6 lead with just over 12 minutes left to play in the first stanza.

Both teams struggled from the floor and the Bulldogs clawed their way back to within three at 13-10 before Mahurin converted a traditional three-point play to put the Sycamores back out in front by six at 16-10.

Once again the Bulldogs answered the Sycamores call with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 16 with just under six minutes to go in the first half but a three-pointer by freshman Brandon Burnett and assist on an Odum layup put the Sycamores back in the lead at 21-16.

The Bulldogs then went on a 7-0 run to take a 23-21 lead, their first of the game, with 3:26 showing on the clock. Drake ended the first half on an 11-0 run, over the last 4:40, and at halftime, led the Sycamores by a score of 27-21.

Coming out of the locker room, the Bulldogs extended their run to 13-0 with a layup before an Odum three-pointer brought the Sycamores back to within five at 29-24.

The Bulldogs then jumped out to their largest lead of the game at 37-27 before Eitel knocked down his second trey of the night to cut the Drake advantage to 37-30 with just over 14 minutes remaining in regulation.

Drake answered, however, with a traditional three-point play and trey to extend their lead over the Sycamores to 43-30 before a pair of Cummings free throws cut the deficit to 11.

With just under nine minutes remaining in regulation the Sycamores made a run with a Mahurin layup and pair of free throws by freshman Khristian Smith to cut the Bulldog lead to nine. Drake answered with a three pointer but a quick trey by Smith made it 49-40 with 6:59 showing on the clock.

The Sycamores could get no closer, however, as they fell to the Bulldogs by a final score of 67-56.

Odum led the Sycamores with 13 points, five assists and four rebounds Mahurin and Cummings joined Odum in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.

The Sycamores will wrap up the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday when they travel to face the Purple Aces of Evansville on Saturday in Evansville, Ind.
