LOUIS - Indiana State junior starting pitcher Sean Manaea fanned
10 batters in ISU's 3-1 victory against College of Charleston last Friday in
Auburn, Ala., and has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the
Week as announced by the league office.
Manaea worked six innings on the mound against the Cougars, striking out 10
batters for the third time in his career. Last season, Manaea struck out 10
batters against Maryland - Eastern Shore on Feb. 25 before posting a
career-high 12 strikeouts against Illinois State on March 31.
The Wanatah, Ind., native allowed just one hit last Friday, a two-out single in
the first inning. The College of Charleston worked just five baserunners
against the Indiana State southpaw with none reaching third base.
Manaea became the 13th member of the 200 Strikeout Club at Indiana State with
his six Ks against IPFW in his first start of the season and continues to climb
the career rankings in the Sycamore record book. After his 10-strikeout
performance last week, Manaea ranks in a tie for 10th in ISU history with Chris
Schaefer (1987-89) with 213 career strikeouts.
Indiana State plays four road games this week, beginning with a midweek trip to
fellow 2012 NCAA Eugene Regional participant Austin Peay on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
This weekend, the Sycamores travel to Eastern Kentucky for a three-game weekend
set on Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3.
