Sycamore Softball Splits Games With Bryant And Chattanooga Saturday

AUBURN, Ala.—The Indiana State softball team (5-4) recorded a 10-2 victory over the Bulldogs of Bryant (1-2) before falling 9-2 to the Moc's of Chattanooga (2-5) Saturday as part of the Tiger Invitational.

Game One

The Indiana State softball team got a lead early and sophomore Megan Stone hit a three-run home run to lead the Sycamores to a 10-2 win over the Bulldogs of Bryant University in six innings Saturday morning.

"Halle Humphrey stepped up with a great pitching performace and our bats came alive," said head coach Shane Bouman. "11 hits and 10 runs was a good way to start the day." 

Junior Morgan Allee led off the bottom of the second inning with an infield single to the short stop before stealing second and advancing to third on a ground out by freshman Alexa Cavin. Junior Shelby Wilson then got the Sycamores on the board with an RBI single to score Allee and make it 1-0 ISU.

The Bulldogs answered in the top of the second inning with a run to tie the game at 1-1.

The Sycamore bats were just getting warmed up, however, and retook the lead 4-1 in the bottom of the third as sophomore Megan Stone crushed a ball over the right center field fence for a three-run home run. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Sycamore offense struck again. Dickerson receive a one out walk and immediately stole second base before Allee hit a double to right field to score Dickerson. Cavin then hit a double off the top of the right field wall to score Allee and make it 6-1 Indiana State.

The Bulldogs added a run in the top of the sixth inning but the Sycamores were not done yet as they scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Bryant 10-2 by the eight-run rule.

Allee finished the game 4-4 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored while Stone went 1-2 with three RBI's, two runs scored and two walks. Freshman Halle Humphrey pitched four innings to earn the win, allowing just two hits and one base on balls.

Game Two

The Sycamores found themselves down early to begin the second game of the day against the Moc's of Chattanooga as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Despite trailing after the first inning, the Sycamores battled back in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Moc's lead to 4-2. Freshman Alexa Cavin led off the fourth inning with a single through the right side before Shelby Wilson reached on a bunt single to put runners at first and second. 

Sophomore Megan Stone then moved both runners to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and senior Halee Myers got the Sycamores on the board with a sacrifice fly to score Cavin. The Sycamores then picked up a second run when sophomore Megan Bunting singled to advance Wilson to third before advancing to home on the throw.

Neither team scored in the fifth inning before the Moc's put up five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 9-2. The Sycamores got runners on in the seventh but could not cut into the Moc's lead and fell by a final score of 9-2.

Junior Shelby Wilson and freshman Alexa Cavin each finished 1-3 at the plate with a run scored while senior Halee Myers recorded the team's lone RBI.

The Sycamores will conclude play in the Tiger Invitational Sunday when they face the Tigers of Tennessee State at 12:30 p.m.
