LOUIS - Junior Anna Munn picked up her second weekly award
following her career high 25-point scoring effort at UT Martin last Sunday,
earning the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week selection
as announced by the league office today (Dec. 19).
Munn was also named the MVC Player of the Week on Monday, as her 25 points led Indiana State to a 73-71 overtime victory at UT Martin on Sunday.
The Indianapolis native and Decatur Central High School product went 8-for-21 (38.1%) from the field with three shots from beyond the arc against the Skyhawks. Munn entered this week leading the MVC and ranking 14th in the NCAA by averaging 3.1 three-pointers made per game. The ISU junior scored seven of her 25 points in the overtime period against UTM, making a pair of shots and three free throws to send the Sycamores to the overtime victory.
On Tuesday against Chicago State, Munn went into double figures with 11 points, extending her streak to 10 consecutive games with at least 10 points to start this season. She is the first Sycamore to start a season with 10 straight double-digit scoring games since Melanie Boeglin in 2005-06. That season, Boeglin posted at least 10 points in the first 16 games of the season.
Munn was a Second Team Academic All-MVC selection following her sophomore season and currently holds a 3.74 GPA while majoring in Exercise Science.
As a team, the Sycamores won their sixth consecutive game on Tuesday, topping the Cougars 69-35. The win improved Indiana State to 8-2 on the season and 6-0 inside Hulman Center, making the Sycamores one of just 15 teams from around the nation to stand unbeaten on their home court with after at least six games played.
Indiana State closes out nonconference play on Saturday, Dec. 22, with a trip to Indianapolis to face in-state rival Butler. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. inside Hinkle Fieldhouse and will follow the Butler men's basketball team's game against the Evansville Purple Aces at 2:00 p.m.
