TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—Indiana State head volleyball coach Traci Dahl announced Tuesday the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent to join the Sycamore program for the 2013-14 season. Sycamore volleyball signees include: Melody Joy Burdette of Downey, California; Kynedi Nalls of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Breeann Spangler of Coldwater, Michigan. "I am extremely excited about the incoming class this next year," head coach Traci Dahl said. "All three players come from highly competitive club teams well known around the country. These young ladies have such great character, personalities, are great students in the classroom and are tremendous athletes on the court who will help us get to where we want to be. All three will come in and help fill some of the holes we will be missing from the graduating seniors. I look for them to come in and make an immediate impact. All of these young ladies will complement the existing team we have and will fit into the goals we have for the program for the future."
Melody Joy Burdette
Burdette joins the Sycamore program after a standout career at Downey High School in Downey, California. While at Downey High School Burdette lettered three years in volleyball and recorded numerous awards and including: 1st team All-League, Best Defensive Player, Most Blocks and Athlete of the week. Burdette plans on majoring in Elementary Education at Indiana State.
Coach Dahl on Burdette: "Mel is a middle blocker right now but can hit the high ball as well which will make her a little more versatile coming in. Mel is a player who has yet to meet her potential. She is blocking at a very high point and is hitting a very hard ball. She is playing on a very competitive club team that will help her prepare for college at the Division 1 level. Mel comes to us From SoCal Juniors out of Southern California."
Nalls joins the Sycamore volleyball program after lettering three years in volleyball and two years in basketball at Saginaw High School in Fort Worth, Texas. During the 2011-12 season Nalls was named Honorable Mention All-State. She was also named District 6 – 4A Blocker of the Year and 1st Team All-District in 2012. Nalls holds school records of 20 kills in a single match, season hitting percentage (.291), career kills per game (2.77), career hitting percentage (.260) and career blocks per game (.83). She was also named Texas Academic All-State. While at Indiana State she plans on majoring in Physical Therapy.
Coach Dahl on Nalls: "Kynedi is an outstanding student athlete who jumps out of the gym. She has a great presence at the net and is blocking at a very high level which is something that we need. She is an aggressive player who is always striving to be better. Kynedi comes to us from TAV Volleyball Club out of Texas."
Spangler joins the Indiana State volleyball program after lettering three years in volleyball and one year in basketball at Coldwater High School in Coldwater, Michigan. During her prep career Spangler was named 2nd Team Division 1 All-State during the 2011 and 2012 season as well as All-Conference (2011-12) and All-Region (2001-12). At Coldwater High School Spangler was named MVP in 2011 and 2012, Best Blocker in 2011 and Best Captain in 2012. She finished her high school career second in all-time Serving Percentage, 4th in career kills and 2nd in career digs. While at Indiana State, Spangler plans to major in Speech Pathology.
Coach Dahl on Spangler: "Bree is an outstanding pin hitter and has great size with a big presence at the net. Bree has such great competitive spirit and will complement our existing team and program goals. She is going to be a great Outside Hitter that can play either on the outside or on the Right. She has proven to be a leader on and off the court. Bree comes to us from DFFO Volleyball Club."
