Painter, Fullenkamp Named October’s Sycamore Scholar-Athletes of the Month

Dillon Painter, a senior linebacker on the Indiana State football team, and Christie Fullenkamp, a senior outside hitter on the Sycamore volleyball team, have been named the Sycamore Scholar-Athletes of the Month, sponsored by State Farm Agent Sandy Bryant, for the month of October.


Created in September 2012, the Sycamore Scholar-Athlete of the Month Award, sponsored by State Farm Agent Sandy Bryant, will be presented each month (September through April) to a male and female student-athlete who has excelled in academics, athletics and leadership.  The program is designed to recognize Sycamore student-athletes for being positive role models for Indiana State University and to motivate and encourage excellence.


Painter, who carries a 3.46 grade point average in exercise science, tallied 12 total tackles for the Sycamores during an undefeated month of October, including three tackles for loss and quarterback sack. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native enjoyed a five-tackle performance at Western Illinois, where he posted two tackles for loss and his sack. He added four tackles against South Dakota with two more in the Homecoming victory over Missouri State and posted one more in the victory on the road over No. 1 North Dakota State.


Fullenkamp, a native of Botkins, Ohio, has a 3.42 grade point average in nursing.  She led the Indiana State volleyball team over the month of October with 76 kills and averaged 4.22 kills per set. Fullenkamp also finished the month with a .217 attack percentage with four aces and six blocks. She also added 42 digs and 2.33 digs per set over the month.


Student-athletes are nominated based on the following criteria:


Academic Excellence.  To be eligible for nomination, the student-athlete must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.


Athletic Excellence.  The student-athlete has competed to the best of his/her ability throughout the month and exemplified great effort and tenacity during practice and competition.


Involvement.  The student-athlete must show leadership in and out of competition, participate in community service and applicable SAAC and life skills programming as well as show Sycamore spirit by supporting other teams and sporting events.
