OMAHA, Neb.—Freshman Cassandra Willis led the Indiana State volleyball team (3-22, 1-14 MVC) with eight kills but the Sycamores fell 3-0 Friday, on the road, to the Bluejays of Creighton (23-3, 14-1 MVC).
The Sycamores were never able to get an edge early in a set as the Bluejays took four point advantages to open each frame.
In the first, the Sycamores battled back from an early 6-1 deficit to cut the Bluejay lead to 9-6 thanks to kills by senior Shea Doran, senior Christie Fullenkamp and junior Loni Mackinson. The Bluejays prevailed, however, as the Sycamores fell 25-15.
Once again in the second and third sets, the Sycamores got behind early before battling back late in the sets. The Sycamores got production from nearly everyone on the team as eight different players recorded kills. The Bluejays went on to win the second and third sets 25-11 and 25-14 to win the match 3-0.
Willis led the team with eight kills while Buck led the Sycamores on the defensive end with 16 digs. Junior Loni Mackinson also added 13 digs and 12 assists.
The Sycamores will return to action Saturday when they travel to face the Bulldogs of Drake University at 8 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
