The Indiana State women's
soccer team looks to improve to 2-0 at home this season when the Sycamores host
IPFW on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. from Memorial Stadium
between the Sycamores and Mastodons.
The women's soccer team will also be welcoming members of the Boy Scouts of
America to Memorial Stadium, who can receive free admission by wearing their
uniforms. At halftime, a relay race will take place on the field with the
opportunity to earn a Cub Scout Belt and Loop and Sports Pin.
Fans that cannot make it to Sunday's game at Memorial Stadium can watch the
game live for free on GoSycamores.com through SycamoreVision. The free webcast
will begin 15 minutes before kickoff in Terre Haute.
Indiana State opened the 2012 campaign with a 2-0 victory in the season opener
over SIU Edwardsville, coming on Friday, Aug. 17. Junior Shelby Troyer scored
the game's opening goal in the 25th minute, before sophomore Marisa Windisch
sealed the victory with a free kick goal with just over two minutes remaining
in regulation. The Sycamores played their first road game of the season last
Friday, falling 3-0 in Indianapolis to Butler.
IPFW enters Sunday's contest with a 0-2-0 record on the season, falling at
Louisville, 1-0, to open their season before dropping a home contest with
Toledo last Friday by the same score, 1-0. The Mastodons went 7-9-1 overall
last season and tied for fifth in the Summit League with a 4-4-1 mark.
ISU has picked up a 2-0 win in each of the last two trips to Terre Haute by
IPFW (2007, 2010).
A Little History
Sunday's match will be the seventh all-time meeting between Indiana State
and IPFW, with the Sycamores leading the series by a 3-2-1 margin. The
Sycamores are 3-1-0 all-time in games played in Terre Haute, winning the last
two games played at home in 2007 and 2010. The Sycamores and Mastodons have
split their last two meetings, with Indiana State winning 2-0 in Terre Haute in
2010 before IPFW returned the favor with a 1-0 win in Fort Wayne to open the
2011 season.

and Toledo to start their season. The Mastodons had a strong exhibition season
in early August, going 2-0-1 in games with Detroit, Western Michigan and
Northern Illinois. Freshman Maya Reyes leads the team this season with five
shots, while tying with senior Rhea Proctor with two shots on goal. Freshman
Sam Pavlika has played all 180 minutes in goal for IPFW, making six saves.

The Mastodons came away with a 1-0 win in the season opener for both teams
last season on Aug. 19, as Danielle Bishop sent in an indirect free kick in the
74th minute for the game's only goal. IPFW led 6-5 in shots, 3-1 in shots on goal
and 5-2 in corner kicks in the match in Fort Wayne last season.
Multiple Goals
Indiana State tallied multiple goals against SIU Edwardsville on Friday,
Aug. 17, their first game with at least two goals since a 2-0 win on the road
over Murray State on Sept. 9 last season, a span on 10 matches. It has also
been 10 matches since the Sycamores scored multiple goals in back-to-back
games, as Indiana State defeated SIU Edwardsville 3-2 in overtime before
topping Murray State last season.
Clean Sheet Debut
Freshman Erin Mitchell made her collegiate debut between the posts for
Indiana State on Friday, Aug. 17, earning a clean sheet against SIU
Edwardsville while making four saves. The Indiana State newcomer made three of
her saves in the second half with Indiana State leading by just a single goal,
becoming just the second Indiana State goalkeeper to tally a shutout in her
collegiate debut. Taylor Nelson also earned a shutout back in 2008 over Eastern
Illinois, as Indiana State won 1-0 in overtime.
Three Points
Sophomore Marisa Windisch picked up a goal and an assist in Indiana State's
2-0 win over SIU Edwardsville on Friday, Aug. 17. Windisch tallied her assist
on the game's opening goal before securing the season-opening victory with a
goal on a free kick in the 88th minute. The sophomore defender's three points
were the most for a Sycamore in the opening game of a season since 2004 when
Nichole Tiggs tallied two goals and an assist in a 4-3 overtime victory over
Troy.
Not Many Attempts
Indiana State could never get going against Butler in Indianapolis on
Friday, falling 3-0 to the Bulldogs in their road opener. Freshman Sydney
Lovelace took both of ISU's attempts at goal as the Sycamores finished with
just two shots for the game. Indiana State's two shots against the Bulldogs
were the fewest for the team since ISU also had just two shots in a 2-0 loss at
Drake on Oct. 9, 2005.
