NASSAU, Bahamas - The Indiana State Sycamores defeated the Giants - a professional club team from the Bahamas - by the score of 95-76 on Sunday evening (August 12) at the Kendal Issacs National Gym.
The game represented a schedule change in opponent for the Sycamores, who were originally scheduled to play the Real Deal Shockers tonight, but instead will play them on Monday.
Junior transfer Manny Arop led the way with 17 points for the Sycamores, as he hit a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give the Sycamores a 45-29 lead and then scored 12 more points in the third quarter as he hit a total of four 3-pointers on the night.
RJ Mahurin scored 16 while Brandon Burnett added 13 and Devonte Brown scored 10. Justin Gant added 10 points.
Overall, the Sycamores hit 44 percent of their shots from the field 37-of-85 and were 7-of-20 from 3-point range (35 percent). The Giants attempted 46 free throws in the game as ISU was whistled for 32 total fouls. The Giants were in the bonus (five team fouls required to reach) within four minutes in both the third and fourth quarters.
The Giants held a few short-lived leads in the first quarter before a late 6-0 run game ISU a 28-20 lead. The Sycamores limited the Giants to just nine points in the second quarter to take a 45-29 lead on Arop's last second shot before the half.
Jake Kitchell led the Sycamores on the glass with 11 rebounds while Odum had eight assists.
ISU owned a 53-26 lead on the glass.
The game was played by FIBA rules, which meant the teams played with four 10 minute quarters and had a 24-second shot clock.
The Sycamores will play the Real Deal Shockers on Monday night in the second of three exhibition contests. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. (ET).
