The accolades continue to roll in for Indiana State University's senior outfielder Brady Shoemaker. Just days after being selected in the 19th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox, Shoemaker was named to the 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association Midwest All-Region Second Team.
Following a 2009 season where Shoemaker, a Brazil, Ind. native, led the Sycamores in eight offensive categories, the senior outfielder has been racking up awards with the same consistency as he produced at the plate last season.
Shoemaker hit .389 this past season and led the team in slugging percentage (.700), on base percentage (.508), runs scored (65), doubles (19), home runs (14), total bases (142), walks (43) and stolen base percentage (1.000, 7-7).
Shoemaker's 2009 awards now consist of selections to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team, Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team and ABCA Midwest All-Region Second Team. Throw in hearing your name called during the 2009 MLB Draft and the first half of 2009 has been nothing but impressive for the ISU outfielder.
The Midwest Region of the ABCA consists of a total of 12 states and the All-Region team is voted on by the coaches from the 36 schools in the region. Seven states are represented on 2009's list, with Shoemaker being the only selection from the state of Indiana.
