WICHITA, Kan.—Freshman Abbie Malchow crushed her first career home run as a Sycamore but the Indiana State softball team (10-15, 1-2 MVC) fell 6-3 in the series finale to the Shockers of Wichita State Sunday.

"We are young and inexperienced in a number of areas," head coach Shane Bouman said. "These kids are working very hard and are dedicated to improve Sycamore Softball.  It is sure going to be nice to be at home next weekend."

The Shockers jumped out to an early lead over the Sycamores in the bottom of the first inning when a leadoff single, walk and base on balls came around to score to give Wichita State an early 3-0 lead over Indiana State.

In the top of the third inning junior Morgan Allee led off the inning with a hit by pitch and stole second base before moving to third on a fielders choice off the bat of Alexa Cavin. Allee then came around to score off a throwing error by the Shocker catcher to cut the lead to 3-1.

Wichita State answered back in the bottom half of the frame scoring three runs off three hits to extend their lead to 6-1 after three complete innings. The Sycamore pitching staff then tightened up allowing just three hits over the last four innings.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, Malchow crushed a ball over the left center field fence for her first career home run and to cut the Shocker lead to 6-2.

Sophomore Megan Buntng then singled before sophomore Ashley Dickerson was hit by a pitch and freshman Meredith Henriksen reached on an error to load the bases. Senior Halee Myers then cut into the Shocker lead even more as she hit a pinch hit single to score Bunting and make it 6-3.

The Sycamores could get no closer, however, as they stranded 10 base runners en route to a 6-3 loss in the series finale to Wichita State.

Malchow finished 2-3 with an RBI and run scored while Bunting was 2-4 with a run scored.

The Sycamores will wrap up their 26-game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Charleston, Ill. to take on the Panthers of Eastern Illinois.
