HAUTE, Ind. –
The Indiana State women's track & field team is ranked in the top 25 of the
nation for the seventh straight week as they are 18th in the nation according
to the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCCA) computer rankings released Tuesday. The Sycamore men are currently
31st nationally marking the seventh straight week they have been among the top
35 of the nation.
The
Sycamore women are coming off a second place finish at the 2013 Missouri Valley
Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, their best finish since
their won the team title in 2001. Despite the effort, the Indiana State team
dropped a spot in the national poll after being ranked 17th just a week ago.
The
Indiana State men won their second team title in three years at the 2013 MVC
Championships but fell out of the top 25 for the first time in three weeks
after begin ranked 25th a week ago. The Sycamore men had their highest ranking
since the USTFCCCA began the ratings system in 2008 when they climbed to 20th
two weeks.
Louisiana
State remained the top women's team in the national rankings with Oregon second.
Kansas moving up two spots to third, Arkansas dropping a spot to fourth, and Clemson
down one to fifth. Arkansas is the top ranked men's team followed by Florida, and
Texas A&M. Wisconsin jumped six spots to fourth with Oregon also up six to
fifth.
The
Sycamore women are the highest ranked team in the national rankings from the
Missouri Valley Conference with their 18th ranking. Wichita State dropped one
spot to 20th with Illinois State down to 38th, Missouri State moved up to 85th,
and Southern Illinois now 90th. Indiana State is also the top ranked team among
major universities in Indiana. Purdue jumped 30 spots to 33rd with Notre Dame
down 26 to 57th, and Indiana up 32 positions to 76th.
The
Indiana State men are also the highest ranking team in the national poll from
the Missouri Valley Conference with their 31st ranking. Southern Illinois dropped
10 spots to 75th with Northern Iowa now 82nd, Drake up to 87th, and Wichita
State now 93rd. The Indiana Hoosiers are the top ranked team among major
universities in Indiana as they moved up one to seventh in the national
rankings. Indiana State follows in 31st with Purdue up seven to 39th, and Notre
Dame up down spots to 55th.
The
two Indiana State teams are also among the best according to the Great Lakes
Region rankings which were also released today. The Indiana State women moved
up to seventh in the Great Lakes Region while the Sycamore men moved up to
eighth.
Michigan
retained its hold on the top spot in the women's Great Lakes Region rankings
followed Kent State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. The second five is
led by Michigan State followed by Indiana State, Akron, Indiana, and Eastern
Michigan.
Wisconsin
remained the leader in the men's Great Lakes Region rankings followed by Indiana,
Ohio State, Akron and Michigan. The second five is led by Purdue followed by
Michigan State, Indiana state, Eastern Michigan, and Notre Dame.
