FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The top two women shot putters in the nation squared off at the Tyson Invitational Saturday with top ranked Tia Brooks of Oklahoma out throwing second ranked Felisha Johnson of Indiana State in the final three rounds to take the win.

There was some great news from the Sycamore camp, however, as the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Macey Black, Stacia Weatherford, Leeann Michl, and Shelby Higginbottom ran to a seventh place finish and set a new school record with a time of 3:41.65.

"Fe was consistent today in placing second to the NCAA leader," Angela Martin, Indiana State women's track & field coach said. "It was nice to see her steady over the 17 meter mark.

"We had a great finish to the end of ht emeet with a school record from the 4x4," Martin said. "Next weel will be a tune up for conference and we will hopefully be at the top of our game in two weeks."

Weatherford and Michl were members of the previous school record holding team along with former ISU greats Lauren Martin and Erica Moore. Those four combined to run 3:43.76 in 2010.

Brooks picked up the win in the shot put with a heave of 58-feet-8-inches (17.88 meters) with Johnson second at 55-feet-11.75-inches (17.06 meters) as both competitors worked hard to out throw each other on every attempt.

Indiana State freshman John Mascari ran a personal best 8:18.73 to finish fourth in the men's 3,000 meters. Mascari ran in the fast heat and stayed with the front pack. Caleb Edmonds of Liberty won the event (8:14.09) with Roberto Diaz of Oklahoma Christian second (8:16.41), and Mark Pinales of Texas third (8:18.25).

Former Indiana State pole vaulter Kylie Hutson competed at the Don Kirby Elite this past weekend, winning the women's pole vault by clearing 15-feet-1.75-inches (4.62 meters). This was the second straight meet to go over 15-feet.

The Sycamores have one indoor meet left on their schedule before the 2013 MVC Indoor Championships as they will compete in the EIU Friday Night Special on Feb. 15.
