TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State head basketball coach Greg Lansing
announced today (Nov. 14) that Brenton Scott has signed a National Letter Of
Intent to join the Sycamore program in time for the 2013-14 campaign.
"We are very excited about
Brenton Scott joining our program," Lansing said. "Not only has he
been really good for Fort Wayne Northrop, but he has been outstanding playing
with his twin brother, Bryson, who signed today with Purdue. They have been
really tough and competitive guys, who are extremely focused on improving their
game. Brenton brings a different element to our program as far as defending and
being able to play really well at both ends of the floor."
Scott is a 6-0, 190 guard out of
Fort Wayne, Ind., where he will soon begin his senior season at Northrop High
School. Last season as a junior, Scott averaged 16.3 ppg for the Bruins, who
finished last season with a 21-4 record and won a sectional title. He is
coached by Barak Coolman at Northrop High School.
"By signing Brenton, we are
getting another player from the state of Indiana, and one from an area of the
state (Fort Wayne) where we have not been in a while," Lansing said.
"The biggest thing about Brenton is his competitiveness and his will to
win. He does all of the little things, and his main goal is for the team to
win."
While Scott is obviously a
tremendous scorer, his also is strong defender, averaging 2.9 steals per game
last season. His twin brother, Bryson, led Northrop with a 25.3 ppg average in
2011-12. Brenton was a Fort Wayne Journal Gazette All-Area selection in 2012.
"Defensively, Brenton really
climbs into the opponent and wants to put a lot of pressure on his man and take
them out of the game," Lansing commented. "Offensively, he is
versatile. He can make shots and is strong at handling the ball and can come
off of screens. He fits perfectly into what we are trying to do here at Indiana
State."
Scott will become the second twin on
the Sycamore roster next season, joining Lucas Eitel, who is in his junior
season at ISU and was joined by his twin brother Logan on the roster for two
seasons.
Indiana State returns to action on
Saturday, November 17 when they host Truman State at 1:05 p.m. (ET) inside
Hulman Center.
