TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Sophomore Racheal Mahan posted career highs with 18 points and 12 rebounds on Monday night inside Hulman Center, leading the Indiana State women's basketball team to a 55-49 victory over Marshall in front of 2,141 fans.

Indiana State (2-0) never trailed on Monday night, as the Sycamores scored on their first three possessions behind a layup from senior Taylor Whitley, a three-pointer by freshman Kasey Johnson and a three-point play by Whitley to take an 8-3 lead after just two minutes of action.

Marshall (1-1) would cut the ISU lead to just one-point on two separate occasions, but Indiana State closed the half on an 11-2 run to take a 33-23 lead into the locker room. Junior Anna Munn led the Sycamores with 11 points at the break, while Mahan added 10 points and six rebounds. ISU shot 52% (13-for-25) from the field in the opening half.

Both the Sycamores and the Thundering Herd came out cold from the locker room, combining to shoot just 1-for-14 in the first five minutes of the second half.

After Marshall had cut the Indiana State lead to 10 points with five minutes remaining on a pair of free-throws by Leandra King, Johnson and Munn hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to stretch ISU's lead to their largest margin of the evening, at 54-38 with 3:42 to play.

Indiana State took twice as many field goal attempts as Marshall in the second half, as the Sycamores went 8-for-36 (22.2%) from the field to the Thundering Herd's 9-for-18 (50%). Offensive rebounds proved key for the evening, as Indiana State led 38-36 in rebounds, but 22-12 in offensive rebounds and 12-4 in second-chance points.

Mahan led the team with her second straight double-double, the first Sycamore to post back-to-back double-doubles since Shannon Thomas went for 24-and-11 against Bradley on Feb. 10 and 13-and-18 against Northern Iowa on Feb. 12 of last season.

Munn joined her teammate in double figures, scoring 14 points including four treys. Whitley went for six points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals, moving into seventh place on Indiana State's career list with 288 for her career.

Chukwuka Ezeigbo paced the Thundering Herd with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks.

Indiana State hits the road for the first time this season when the Sycamores travel to Bloomington, Ind., on Friday, Nov. 16, for a matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Assembly Hall.
