ST.
LOUIS - Junior Taylor Reed led the Indiana State women's
soccer team to their first victory over Creighton in program history last
Friday night and has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Offensive
Player of the Week as announced the league office.
Reed assisted on the game's opening goal, heading a free kick from senior
Kourtney Vassar to sophomore Aubrie Musselman that led to a goal in the eighth
minute. The junior midfielder from Rockford, Ill., secured Indiana State's
victory over Creighton with her third goal of season in the 84th minute,
redirecting a free kick from senior Casey Allbright inside the near post for a
3-1 ISU lead.
The win for the Sycamores was their first over the Bluejays in program history,
as Creighton had come away with a victory in their first 14 meetings dating
back to 2000. Indiana State had scored just six goals in those 14 matches
before putting three goals on the board last Friday night.
Reed is part of a four-way tie for the team lead in goals, as Reed, Musselman,
freshman Sydney Lovelace and junior Shelby Troyer have all scored three times
this season.
Reed's selection marks the second time this season that ISU has won a Player of
the Week award, as sophomore Alexandra Rodas was named the MVC Defensive Player
of the Week on Sept. 4 after picking up two assists in ISU's wins over Eastern
Illinois and Murray State.
Indiana State hits the road for the first time in MVC play this weekend, when
the Sycamores travel to Normal, Ill., for a matchup with the Illinois State
Redbirds on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
