Carbondale, Ill.--The Indiana State volleyball team (2-9, 0-1 MVC) fell 0-3 to the Southern Illinois Salukis in its opening Missouri Valley Conference game of the season Friday.
The Sycamores battled the Salukis tough in the first set before falling 25-22. The Sycamores found themselves down six at 23-17 before rallying to cut the Saluki lead to 24-22.(10-1, 1-0 MVC)
In the second set both teams battled back and forth, trading points with neither team getting an advantage and late in the set the score was tied 24-24. The Sycamores were not able to pull ahead, however, as the Salukis went on to win the second set 26-24 and take a 2-0 set lead over the Sycamores.
In the third set the Salukis got ahead of the Sycamores early 14-6 and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Sycamores 25-21.
With the loss the Sycamores fall to 2-9 on the season and 0-1 in MVC play.
Senior Shea Doran led the team with 19 kills for a .417 attack percentage.
The Sycamores will return to action Saturday when they continue their opening MVC roadtrip and travel to face the Purple Aces of Evansville.
