GUANAJUATO, MEXICO – Indiana State's Greggmar Swift added another notation on his growing list of accomplishments after taking the bronze medal in the 110 meter hurdles at the 2012 North America Central American Caribbean (NACAC) Under 23 Championships Saturday.

Swift, competing for Barbados, ran 13.54 in the finals to earn the Bronze medal. Countryman Shane Braithwaite took the Gold in 13:31 just edging Barrett Nugent of the United States who finished in 13.32 to claim the Silver. Swift ran 13.69 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals.

The Sycamore also ran the second leg of the Barbados 4x100 meter relay team that finished in fifth with a time of 40.30.

“It was a very good effort by Swift,” John McNichols, Indiana State men's track & field coach and coach of the Sycamore hurdlers, said. “He medaled and his time was his second fastest legal time.”

Although Swift lost to countryman Shane Braithwaite, he did beat Eddie Lovett of the United States in the finals (13.58). Braithwaite competes collegiately at Texas Tech while Lovett competes at Florida. Swift beat Lovett in the finals at the Drake Relays where Swift won the event (13.72) and Lovett finished fifth (13.89).

“I ran an okay race today, gave it my all and I got a bronze medal,” Swift said. “At least my times are consistent.”

Former Sycamore Aubrey Herring competed in the first NACAC Championships in 2000 and won the Gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles (13.96) as he defeated Andrew Lissade of Canada (13.98) and Randy Gillon of Antigua (14.33).

Swift will become the first member of the Sycamore track & field family to compete in the Olympic Summer Games after he qualified to represent his native Barbados in the 110 meter hurdles. Swift will join 2009 world champion Ryan Brathwaite and Shane Brathwaite of Texas Tech in representing their native Barbados in the 110 meter hurdles at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

Swift finished second in the Barbados National Track & Field Championships with a time of 13.52 seconds. Ryan Braithwaite won the event with a time of 13.39 with Shane Braithwaite third in 13.63. Both Ryan and Shane Braithwaite had previously surpassed the “A” standard to earn their spot on the Barbados Olympic Team while Swift had to hit the “A” standard of 13.52 to take the third hurdle position on the team.
