HAUTE, Ind. - The visiting Missouri State Bears took
the rubber match in the final Missouri Valley Conference series of the regular
season in Terre Haute, shutting out the Indiana State baseball team by a 5-0
score on Senior Day.
Indiana State (41-15, 14-7 MVC) dropped just their second series of the season,
as Missouri State (37-18, 13-7 MVC) snapped ISU's string of 12 consecutive
series wins this season.
Saturday's game went scoreless until the sixth inning, when MSU's Keenen Maddox
broke the tie with a two-run home run to left. Missouri State added two more
runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to take a 5-0 lead.
The Sycamores could tally just four hits off MSU starter Pierce Johnson (3-6),
who struck out six batters in eight strong innings. Junior Ryan Torgerson (8-3)
took the loss for ISU, allowing two runs on nine hits with a pair of
strikeouts.
Indiana State will be the top seed in the State Farm MVC Tournament that starts
this Tuesday, May 22, in Springfield, Mo. ISU will take on eighth-seeded
Creighton in their opening game of the tournament, which will be played at 1:30
p.m. (ET), 12:30 p.m. locally in Springfield. The game can be heard live on
