TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Junior starting pitcher Ryan Torgerson tossed eight strong innings on Sunday, leading the Indiana State baseball team to a series victory over the visiting Dallas Baptist Patriots with a 7-5 win from Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium.

Indiana State took the final two games of the series, improving to 31-10 on the season with their ninth consecutive weekend of winning at least two games. Dallas Baptist falls to 27-12 overall, snapping a string of seven straight series wins.

ISU scored first for the first time in the series, getting three runs with two outs in the first inning. Freshman Landon Curry led off the inning with a double down the left field line, scoring with two outs when junior Robby Ort sliced a double to left. Senior Jon Hedges followed with a single through the left side of the infield on the first pitch of his at-bat to make it 2-0 Sycamores. Senior Ryan Walterhouse came up next and battled through a 13-pitch at-bat with DBU starting pitcher Andrew Elkins, completing the lengthy at-bat with a double to left field to score Hedges from first base.

Dallas Baptist got on the board in the fifth inning when Ronnie Mitchell sent a two-out double down the left field line to score Jaime Garrido from second.

A fielding error loomed large for the Patriots in the sixth inning, as ISU scored four runs in the frame. Redshirt junior Koby Kraemer plated senior Jeff Miera from second base with one out to give ISU a three-run lead, before ISU loaded the bases with two outs and brought junior Jeremy Lucas at the plate. Lucas hit a ground ball to third base that went in between the legs of the DBU third baseman Duncan McAlpine, clearing the bases for three unearned runs and a 7-1 ISU lead.

Those runs came into play, as the Patriots scored once in the eighth inning and tallied five hits in the ninth inning, plating three runs before senior Brandon Dorsett forced a groundout to Hedges at first base to end the game.

Torgerson (7-1) picked up his team-leading seventh win of the season, pitching into the ninth while scattering 11 hits and three runs with two strikeouts. The ISU junior hurler also started a pair of double plays on ground balls back to the mound.

Miera and Ort both tallied two hits on Sunday, while Curry scored two runs. ISU tallied 10 hits for the game, improving to 24-3 on the season when totaling double-digit hits.

Indiana State continues their 12-game homestand on Tuesday, when the Sycamores welcome the Fighting Illini of Illinois to Bob Warn Field for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
