ST. LOUIS - Indiana State senior Major Clay was named the MVC men's field athlete of the week while sophomore Greggmar Swift was named the MVC men's track athlete of the week as the Sycamores swept the men's weekly honors as announced Tuesday by the Missouri Valley Conference office. It was the second straight weekly honor for Swift and the first this season for Clay.

Clay picked up right where he left off after the 2011 indoor season, soaring over the seven-foot mark and winning the high jump competition at the Edmonds Cup by clearing 7'-4.25" (2.24 meters) and automatically qualifying for his third straight NCAA Indoor Championships. He also broke the Edmonds Cup record of 7'-3" (2.21 meters) set by Purdue's Geoffrey Davis last year. Davis was second this year, clearing 6'-11.5" (2.12 meters). Clay leads the Valley and is tied for second in the nation with Ricky Robertson of Mississippi.

Swift continues to whittle down his time in the 60 meter hurdles, running a personal best 7.77 seconds in winning the event at the Gene Edmonds Cup Saturday at Purdue with the Boilermakers Brandon Winters second at 8.03. Swift broke the Edmonds Cup meet record of 7.79 set by former Sycamore and All-American Aubrey Herring who ran 7.79 in 2000. The time also ties him for third best all-time at ISU with Will Lash who ran the time in 1996. Swift leads the Valley in the event and is tied for fourth nationally with Keiron Stewart of Texas.

Two members of the ISU women's team was named notable performers for the week including junior Leeann Michl in track and junior Felisha Johnson in field.

Michl remained undefeated in the 800 meters this indoor season, leading a Sycamore sweep of the top two spots at the Edmonds Cup competition Saturday at Purdue with a season best time of 2:14.24. She also won the 800 meters at the 2011 Edmonds Cup. ISU teammate Kristy Twitchell was second in 2:16.80.

Michl also ran the third leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that won for the third straight meet this season with a time of 3:50.71 edging the host Boilermakers by less than two-tenths of a second (3:50.90). Michl ranks second in the Valley in the 800 meters and 45th in the nation.

Johnson was a double winner at the Edmonds Cup Saturday, taking both the shot put and weight throw. Johnson had a personal best heave of 54'-7.25" (16.64 meters) which was just six inches short of ISU's all-time best of 55'-1.5" (16.80 meters) thrown by All-American Christy Barrett in 1991. The distance also eclipsed the Edmonds Cup record of 54'-0.5" (16.47 meters) set by Stacey Wannemacher of Purdue at the 2010 Edmonds Cup.

Johnson also won the weight throw for the second straight year with a toss of 62'-7.25" (20.49 meters). The Sycamore junior ranks fifth nationally in the shot put and second in the weight throw where she is the defending national champion. In the Valley, Johnson is third in the shot put and second in the weight throw.

Indiana State will be participating in the Indiana Relays this Friday and Saturday at Indiana University in Bloomington.
