Lahay Named MVC Defensive Player Of The Week

ST. LOUIS - After leading Indiana State to a pair of shutouts over Butler and IPFW, goalkeeper Emily Lahay has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Lahay, a junior from Sullivan, Ind., recorded her fifth and sixth career shutouts over the weekend, as the Sycamores defeated Butler in Indianapolis on Friday by a score of 1-0, before topping IPFW, 2-0, at Memorial Stadium on Sunday. Lahay's six clean sheets puts her in third place on ISU's career list, behind Rachel Rudzis (11 - 2004-07) and Carey Patton (10 - 2001-03). She was also in goal the last time that ISU notched back-to-back shutouts, when the Sycamores defeated both Drake and Illinois State by 1-0 scores during their run to the MVC Tournament championship game in 2008.

The junior goalkeeper made five saves against the Bulldogs on Friday, including a save on a penalty kick in the opening 10 minutes of the match. On Sunday, Lahay helped ISU even their record on the season, directing the ISU defense to a performance that did not allow a shot on goal for the entire game.

Lahay is the first Sycamore selected as a Player of the Week for the 2010 season, after ISU tied a program record with four selections last season.

The Sycamores will look for their third consecutive win this Sunday, when the Eastern Illinois Panthers travel to Terre Haute. Kickoff against EIU is set for 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
