TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State women's soccer team could not overcome an early 2-0 deficit on Friday night, as the visiting Western Michigan Broncos jumped out to an early lead and held it for the remainder of the match in a 3-2 victory over the Sycamores at Memorial Stadium in front of 218 fans.

Western Michigan (1-0) scored just under four minutes into the match following a corner kick and added to their lead in the 19th minute. Anina Cicerone and Brittney Pavlica scored the goals for the Broncos, who controlled much of the pace throughout the night.

Indiana State (0-1) cut their deficit to one goal with one goal of their own in the 38th minute, following a corner from freshman Autumn Jacobs. Jacobs found the foot of fellow freshman Shelby Troyer in the six-yard box, who scored her first career goal into the lower-left corner.

The Broncos quickly pushed their lead back to two goals, however, with Stephanie Skowneski scoring just under two minutes later to make the halftime lead 3-1 in favor of WMU.

The Sycamores scored again 23 minutes into the second half to cut the lead back to one goal. Junior Seyma Erenli fed a perfect throughball to fellow junior Ashley Collins, with Collins finding the back of the net while on the right side of the penalty box. Counting ISU's two exhibition matches this season, Collins, a junior college transfer from DuPage, has scored in each match for ISU this season.

That was as close as the Sycamores could get on Friday night, as the Broncos would not allow another goal to take the match by a score of 3-2.

For the match, WMU totaled 15 shots (nine on goal) compared to ISU's five (four on goal). Collins led the way with two shots on goal, with Troyer, junior Jessica Rosenberg and junior Morgan Wendlandt picking up one shot each.

Freshman Brianna Supulski started the match in goal for ISU, making four saves while allowing three goals in the first 45 minutes. Junior Emily Lahay played the entire second half between the posts, keeping a clean sheet while making a pair of saves.

The Sycamores will hit the road for their next match, when they travel to Ball State on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. with live stats on GoSycamores.com and live in-game updates on the ISU soccer Twitter page at http://twitter.com/ISUSoccer.
