DISHER, LaMASTER RECEIVE ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS FROM USTFCCCA

Sycamore duo joins six women named from ISU track & field team earlier this week

NEW ORLEANS ? Indiana State's Michael Disher and Drew LaMaster were named All-Academic by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. The two members of the ISU men's track & field team join six women who received the honor on Wednesday.

“Disher is a great runner who trains hard and also takes care of academics in a really tough major (accounting),” John McNichols, Indiana State men's track & field head coach, said. “He is following in the footsteps of many of great runners including Scott Keeney, Jordan Fife, and Sean Bowman. LaMaster is very young to our sport but really came on this season and made his first region meet while also being a good student. These are two excellent examples of student athletes.”

Disher competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Round, finishing 31st in a race that was delayed 12 hours by rain. The Indianapolis, Ind., native won the MVC Outdoor title in the steeplechase to earn All-Conference recognition. He was fourth in the 5,000 meters at the MVC Outdoors. Disher was also named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team in 2010. He was also named All-Academic in cross country.

LaMaster competed in the men's pole vault at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Round, finishing 32nd after clearing 16'-2.75”. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native placed fifth at the MVC Outdoors with a personal best vault of 16'-7.25” and was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.

On Wednesday, Kylie Hutson was named the Women's Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. She also joined Kelsey Hanley, Richelle Kimble, Lauren Martin, Leeann Michl, and Erica Moore in receiving All-Academic recognition. Hutson, Martin, and Moore were named All-Academic for the third straight year while Hanley received her second straight recognition.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective events.
