TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? The 2010 schedule for the Indiana State volleyball team was released today, featuring a season opening game against Sycamore Alumni on August 21, a home tournament, and 11 regular season home games.
The 34th season of Sycamore volleyball will kick off in the Indiana State Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, when former Sycamore players will return to Terre Haute to battle the 2010 team. The event is free to the public and will be the first event in the newly air-conditioned Arena.
The regular season will kick off the following weekend as the Sycamores compete in the SIU Edwardsville Volleyball Classic (Aug. 27-28) against SIU Edwardsville, Ball State, and The Citadel. Indiana State will visit IUPUI in a mid-week game on Aug. 31 before opening the home portion of the schedule with the Indiana State/Drury Inn Classic (Sept. 3-4) as ISU entertains SIU Edwardsville, Western Carolina, and Montana State.
Indiana State remains home to host Valparaiso on Sept. 7 and then travels to Akron, Ohio, for the Akron Invitational (Sept. 11-12) where they will play St. Francis (PA), Akron, and Appalachian State. The non-conference portion of the schedule will be completed with a road game at Loyola (Chicago) on Sept. 14 and a home game against Chicago State on Sept. 16.
The Missouri Valley Conference season opens on Friday, Sept. 17 when the Sycamores host Illinois State in a 7 p.m. game. Indiana State will also host Drake on Oct. 1 and Creighton Oct. 2. A four-game home stand begins with Northern Iowa on Oct. 15 followed by Bradley on Oct. 16, Wichita State Oct. 22, and Missouri State on Oct. 23. The final two home games of the season will see ISU take on Evansville on Nov. 5 and Southern Illinois on Nov. 6.
The Sycamores were 7-25 a year ago and finished ninth in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 3-15 record.
