After a pair of victories in the Comfort Inn & Suites Invitational, hosted by Morehead State University, the Indiana State Sycamores traveled to the University of Louisville Saturday night, dropping a 3-0 (10-25, 19-25, 19-25) decision.
The Sycamores, now 2-2 on the season, return to Terre Haute for their home opener on Tuesday night when Indiana State entertains Eastern Illinois starting at 7 p.m.
Indiana State could not get going in the first set against Louisville, dropping a 25-10 decision. The Sycamores were down 2-1 after a kill by Stephanie Volden off a Whitney Fromm set. But Louisville scored seven of the next eight points and cruised from there.
The Sycamores fared better in the second set, which featured five ties and two lead changes. Indiana State trailed 8-7 after a kill by Sarah Agnich followed by a service ace by Agnich.
The Cardinals scored five straight points to seemingly take command but Indiana State continued to stay within striking distance, cutting the Louisville led to 22-18 after a Jodi Stoker kill. The Cardinals hung on, however, to win the second set.
The third set was tied six times as Louisville would surge in front with Indiana State coming back to knot the set up. The last tie came at 18 after a Stoker kill but then Louisville scored five straight and went on to win the set, and the match.
Whitney Fromm had 17 assists in the match with Stephanie Meier getting nine digs. Jodilynn stoker had nine kills for the Sycamores
Indiana State finished with a .012 hitting percentage while Louisville finished at .347.
