Terre Haute, Ind.—The Indiana State University swimming and diving team will officially jump into their inaugural season this weekend in South Bend, Ind.
On Oct. 7 at 5:00 p.m. the Sycamores will compete in the Dennis Starke Relays at the University of Notre Dame. Along with the Irish other notable opponents competing in the relays are Wright State, Bowling Green, and fellow Missouri Valley Conference program Illinois State.
ISU will not only get to compete against their first official competition but also get a first look at a conference rival. The Redbirds placed fourth at the MVC Championships in 2015 and were ranked fourth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Sycamores will then face off with the Fighting Irish in a dual meet the following day on Oct. 8 at 11:00 a.m. Notre Dame placed seventh in the ACC Championships in 2015.
ISU opened their season unofficially on Sept. 30 at the Vigo County Aquatic Center with an intrasquad meet. Although times were not important, the girls posted an impressive performance showing a bright future for the program.
Indiana State has a team of 17 freshmen along with first year head coach Matt Leach and assistant Rebecca Westfall.
