TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – After an exciting 34-31 upset of No. 9 Illinois State on Saturday, the Sycamore Football team has jumped into the national top-25 in both the STATS FCS and HERO Sports Top-25 polls.
This is the first time Indiana State has been ranked in the national top-25 since Nov. 2, 2015, the last week of a school-record 20-week run dating back to the historic 2014 playoff season – a streak that was snapped after a 59-13 loss at No. 17 Northern Iowa on Nov. 7.
The Sycamores are currently 3-1 and off to a 1-0 start in the grueling Missouri Valley Football Conference season following Saturday's upset victory. Indiana State has started 3-1 in each of the last three seasons, which topped out with a 4-1 start to the 2014 playoff season. The Sycamores have not started 2-0 in MVFC play since 2011, 3-0 since 1996 and they have never started 4-0 in conference play since joining the MVFC in 1986.
Seven MVFC schools rank in the Top-25, with five-time defending national champions North Dakota State (3-0) occupying the No. 1 slot by a unanimous vote. Other conference schools ranked include: No. 8 Western Illinois (3-0), No. 12 Northern Iowa (1-2), No. 15 South Dakota State (1-2), No. 18 Illinois State (2-2) and No. 20 Youngstown State (2-1).
The Sycamores remain home to play host to Missouri State (2-1) for Homecoming on Sat., Oct. 1. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
