BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana State cross country will hit the road for the first time this season at the 77th running of the Indiana Intercollegiates this Friday at Indiana University.

The Sycamores will be among 20 other schools across all division of collegiate cross country at IU on Friday afternoon amidst hundreds of other runners, just one season off of hosting the large meet at LaVern Gibson Championship Course in 2015. Both the Sycamore men and women finished as runners-up in the Big State standings in 2015, with the most impressive performance coming from All-American John Mascari, who became the first runner in the history of the state of Indiana to win four Intercollegiates individual titles.

With Mascari's illustrious career over, it's time for a new group of Sycamores to take the mantle. On the men's side, senior David Timlin is looking to lead Indiana State after a superb season on the track and a season-opening 15th-place finish at home on Sept. 10, running 26:23 in the 8K in wet and humid conditions. Sophomore Akis Medrano also had a stellar open in 18th place at 26:41, himself coming off a very strong freshman season on the track.

The Sycamore women will be at full strength this weekend with junior All-MVC finisher Taylor Austin back in the fold after sitting out the season-opener. Austin won the MVC steeplechase title outdoors at a new school record time of 10:17.70 and is looking to improve upon her sophomore cross season as the top-runner for the Sycamores in 2015, becoming the first ISU female to earn All-Region honors since Jessica Crowder in 2003.

Austin is not alone, however, as sophomores Brooke Moore and Megan Doty posted top-15 finishes in the season-opener in a field that included No. 9 Michigan. Moore, an All-MVC runner that finished ninth in 2015, opened the season at 19:01 for 13th place, while Doty finished 15th at 19:13.

The action begins at 3 p.m. with the women's open 5K, followed by the men's open 8K at 3:30, the women's championship 5K at 4:40 and the men's championship 8K at 5:15 p.m.
