Sophomore defender Brice Bement takes us through the first week of regular season play.
Week #2
This past week we started our first official practices and games of the 2016 season. We trained all week preparing for our home opener game against Western Illinois University on Friday and our game against the University of Louisville on Sunday.
When Friday rolled around, we were more than excited for the anticipation of our first official game. With a walk through in the morning, we later met up again for a pre-game meal at Pie Company before heading to the stadium for the game.
The game was also our canned food drive, so we all brought in our canned foods to donate. A special thanks to everyone who helped out!
With kick off starting at 7 p.m., the game was underway. We were able to pass around and with a cross from senior Maddie Schaak, sophomore Katie Wells was able to get a head on it scoring the first goal.
Senior Gaelen Stejbach added two more goals for us with a far out shot in the first half and then another goal in the second half as well.
After the game, we jumped in the ice baths to start the recovery process for our Sunday game. After those, we all headed outside for a tailgate with family and friends. Thanks to everyone for the great food!
Saturday we had a little recovery practice before jumping on the bus for a drive to Louisville. The Wallace's invited everyone over, so us and our parents were all able to stop there for an amazing feast and to play some competitive games of corn hole and basketball. We then headed back to the hotel for a pool recovery and stretch session.
A huge thank you to the Wallace's for hosting everyone!
The next morning, we woke up ready to play. After a morning stretch and jogging session in the parking lot of the hotel to get our legs loosened up, we were able to enjoy a breakfast at the hotel before heading to the field for our 1 p.m. game against Louisville.
The game started and we worked hard against Louisville. Senior Brittany San Roman had some amazing saves on goal, but we fell short losing 4 to 0. We showered and then loaded the bus for the drive back home.
We will be facing the University of Akron on Friday August 26 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. We will also be playing IUPUI on Sunday August 28 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
It is also parents and alumni weekend so there will be a golf outing on Saturday for the parents as well. Come out and support the ISU women's soccer team!
Go Sycamores!
