TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sycamore Baseball (34-19, 13-8 MVC) closed out regular season play Saturday afternoon by claiming their sixth MVC series win of the season, shutting out Evansville (27-25, 9-12 MVC) by a final score of 3-0. Juniors Weston Rivers and Damon Olds combined to toss nine shutout innings, while the pitching staff as a whole combined for eighteen consecutive shutout innings throughout Friday and Saturday's games.
The Sycamores started off Senior Day by scoring in the first inning when senior Andy Young tripled, and then scored on a passed ball to take the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, senior Andrew Gutierrez singled on bunt as Young followed, reaching on an error. Junior Hunter Owen picked up a RBI as he hit into an out to score Gutierrez. Sophomore Dane Giesler then stepped up, knocking a single to left field to plate Young and give the Sycamores the 3-0 advantage.
Indiana State would hold onto the 3-0 lead to shutout the Purple Aces, clenching the spot as the No. 2 seed heading into the Missouri Valley Conference tournament next week.
