TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—Indiana State softball senior outfielder Kelsey Montgomery has been named second team All-Missouri Valley Conference while junior Kassie Brown was named to the All-Defensive team, the league office announced Wednesday evening.
Montgomery, a native of Mesa, Ariz. finished the season second on the team in batting average and holding a .382 average in league games which ranked top 10 in the conference.
The senior also finished the season with a team high 45 hits and ranked 27th in the NCAA in toughest to strike out with five strikeouts in 137 at bats. Montgomery also finished with 27 runs scored on the season, second best on the team.
In her career, Montgomery finished ranked in the top 10 at Indiana State in runs scored and stolen bases.
Brown finished the 2016 season playing and starting all 51 games of the season at short stop for the Sycamores and was a staple defensively. Brown also hit .311 on the season with a team high nine stolen bases.
The awards are the first for both Montgomery and Brown.
