Senior Taylor Lockwood Named MVC Pitcher Of The Week

ST. LOUIS—After missing the first 35 games of the 2016 season due to a non-softball related medical condition, senior pitcher Taylor Lockwood made her presence known in her return to the circle as she earned Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors the league office announce Monday.

 

Lockwood continued her comeback as she pitched her first career no hitter on Wednesday against Loyola before throwing her second shut out of the week on Saturday against Evansville. The senior threw 22.0 innings on the week with a 3-1 record, allowing just four earned runs with 17 strikeouts and just one walk with three complete games, including two shutouts. Lockwood missed the first 35 games of the 2016 season due to a non-softball related medical condition.

 

Now on the season, the senior has four starts with four complete games and two shutouts.

 

 The award marks the first time this season a Sycamore player has won a MVC weekly award and the fifth time Lockwood has won the award in her third season in the league.

 

The Sycamores will next play Tuesday when they look to complete the series sweep over the Loyola Ramblers in Chicago.
