TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Baseball (13-8, 0-0 MVC) held an early lead on Big Ten Nebraska (12-7, 0-0 Big Ten), before falling to the Cornhuskers 10-4. Senior Andy DeJesus led the Sycamores with two hits, one being a RBI triple in game one of the two-game series.
The Sycamores took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as DeJesus doubled, was moved to third by senior Andy Young, and then scored on a Cornhusker wild pitch. Defensively, Indiana State held Nebraska scoreless until the fifth inning. The Cornhuskers snuck across two runs to one-up the Sycamores 2-1.
Indiana State battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing across two runs themselves, taking back the lead 3-2.
The Cornhuskers, in the seventh inning, took over while batting around the lineup to score seven runs. In that inning two Cornhuskers homered, with the second one coming off the bat of Nebraska senior Steven Reveles in grand slam fashion.
The Sycamores struck again in the eighth inning, as Young would score on a fielder's choice, but that would not be enough to start a late rally. Indiana State would fall in game one of the two-game midweek series 10-4.
Indiana State will wrap-up the series with Nebraska on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Bob Warn Field. Wednesday is faculty and staff appreciation day. All Indiana State faculty and staff members will receive free admission with valid identification. Those attending with a faculty or staff member can purchase tickets for four dollars.
