KISSIMMEE, Fla.—After falling in game one, sophomore pitcher Bailey Benefiel rebounded in game two, throwing a complete game shut out to earn the 2-0 victory and doubleheader split of Albany at the Rebel Games Wednesday.
GAME ONE
In the first game of the day, the Sycamores jumped out to an early lead before the Great Danes offense exploded, defeating the Sycamores 12-2.
Junior Erika Crissman led off the top of the first inning with a double and came around to score on a double by freshman Shaye Barton to make it a 1-0 game.
After a 1-2-3 bottom of the first, the Sycamores stuck again in the top of the second when junior Mary Turitto reached on a fielders choice and came around to score on a single by junior Kassie Brown and a fieling error by the Great Danes to make it 2-0.
Albany took over at that point, scoring 12 unanswered runs over the next four innings to defeat the Sycamores 12-2 in five innings.
GAME TWO
It was a pitchers duel throughout the majority of the second game of the day before the Sycamore offense struck in the bottom of the fifth en route to earning the split with a 2-0 victory.
The Sycamores threatened in the bottom of the first inning when senior Kelsey Montgomery reached on an error and advanced all the way to third with two outs before a ground out ended the frame.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Sycamores put themselves in position once again after junior Erika Crissman led off with a single and senior Alexa Cavin hit a double to put runners at second and third. However, the Sycamores couldn't push anything across.
The very next inning, the Sycamores broke onto the scoreboard as junior Kassie Brown reached on an error with one out and got to third on a bunt single by Montgomery, who stole second.
Freshman Bailey Martin then got the Sycamores on the board with a ground out to score Brown before Crissman singled to score Montgomery and made it 2-0.
That was all the Sycamores needed as they went on to defeat Albany 2-0 in the second game.
Crissman finished the game 2-3 with an RBI while Montgomery was 2-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Benefiel also earned her first career shutout in the circle.
The Sycamores will wrap up play in Florida on Thursday with a doubleheader against Bucknell and Rider.
