STILLWATER, Okla. – Indiana State Baseball (6-4, 0-0 MVC) fell to the No. 25 Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-5, 0-0 Big 12) 1-0 after holding them scoreless for seven and one half innings.
The Sycamores and Cowboys were held scoreless for most of tonight's game, until Oklahoma State reached on a bunt single in the bottom of the eighth inning that would eventually score off of a double to right center field to give the Cowboys the 1-0 advantage. One run would be all the Cowboys needed, as they would sneak a win from the Sycamores in game one of the weekend.
Out-swinging the Cowboys, the Sycamores tallied six hits compared to Oklahoma State's five. Defense proved to be key as the Sycamores allowed runners on in each inning of the ball game, but were able to work their way out of each jam until the bottom of the eighth. One run proved to be enough for the Cowboys as they edged past the Sycamores to take the first game of the series.
Senior Andy DeJesus finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore Jeremy McKinney (1-1) would take the loss on the mound.
Indiana State returns to Allie P. Reynolds Stadium on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET for game two of the three-game series with No. 22 Oklahoma State. Tune in to watch the game live via OkState.com.
