TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State Sycamores went through a two hour scrimmage on a beautiful Saturday morning at Memorial Stadium. It was the team's first scrimmage of the spring and their seventh (of 15) workouts leading up to the Blue/White Spring Game on April 21.

Shakir Bell picked up right where he left off last season as the nation's leading rusher by tallying 99 rushing yards on 22 attempts with three touchdowns during the scrimmage. He broke off a long run of 24 yards on the day which helped set up his 1-yard touchdown rush later in the drive.

Also seeing a lot of work in the Sycamore backfield was Luke Harris who compiled 40 yards on 15 attempts with one rushing touchdown of two yards as well as a 9-yard receiving touchdown.

Mike Perish and Blake Loncar saw the bulk of time under center for the Sycamores as Perish went 11-of-20 passing for 114 yards and two touchdowns with an interception. Loncar was 6-of-9 passing for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns as well as the Sycamores' other interception.

ISU was led in receiving by redshirt freshman Logan Buske who had four catches for 81 yards, including catches of 44 yards (from Loncar) and another of 31 yards. Austen Wozniak, Daniel Gabbard, Michael Mardis and Harris each had receving touchdowns for the Sycamores.

The Sycamore defense held strong early on as the offense had to wait until their third series before gaining a first down and eventually scored on a Bell one-yard TD later in the drive. A quarterback sack by Othniel Harvey stopped the first drive while a tackle at the line of scrimmage on third and two stopped the second drive. Perish found Wozniak open for a seven-yard pass on the third drive for the initial first down of the scrimmage.

Kendall Walker and Ian Allen as well as Harvey each recorded quarterback sacks while Calvin Burnett and Johnny Towalid had interceptions for the defense. Tarise Batiste recovered the only lost fumble of the day for the Sycamore defense.

Tanner Fritschle saw of the kicking action on the day, making all of his extra points and was 1-of-2 on field goals, hitting a 39-yard attempt while missing one from 43 yards out.

The Sycamores will hit the field again for practice three times this week on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium. The team will go through its second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, April 14 at 10 a.m., also at Memorial Stadium. The annual Indiana State Golf Fundraiser will be held on April 20 at Hulman Links Golf Course and the Blue/White Spring Game will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
