HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Alex Sewall was named to the
Capital One Academic All-District Five First Team on Thursday (Nov. 10), an award voted on
by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Because Sewall earned first team selection, he will advance to the All-American
voting stage later in the month.
A senior safety from Western Springs, Ill., Sewall currently sits in second on
the team with 98 total tackles while leading the way with 49 solo stops. Sewall
has recorded three tackles for loss, one sack, three pass breakups, three
fumble recoveries and one forced fumble this season as well. Nationally, Sewall
ranks 14
th in the country with an average of 10.89 tackles per game.
A four-year starter for the Sycamores, Sewall is tied for seventh in the
Indiana State record books with 342 tackles for his career.
In the classroom, Sewall carries a 3.75 GPA in Exercise Science, earning
Academic All-MVFC awards in each of the past two seasons. The Lyons Township
High School product also earned First Team Academic All-District Five last
season.
Sewall and the Sycamores play their final road game of the 2011 regular season
this weekend, when Indiana State travels to Springfield, Mo., to take on
Missouri State on Saturday, Nov. 12. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. (ET).
