EVANSVILLE, Ind. ? Indiana State fell to the University of Evansville, 84-59, in women's collegiate basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium.
ISU fell to 6-6, 0-2 MVC while Evansville improved to 6-6, 1-1 MVC.
Indiana State led by as many as six points early on in the contest on a jumper by senior center Laura Rudolphi as she scored eight of the Sycamores first 11 points over the opening five minutes. ISU found itself ahead 11-7 at the point, but Evansville finally got on track and used seven first half 3-pointers (five of which came from UE stars Rebekah Parker and Courtney Felke) to stake themselves to a 42-29 halftime advantage.
Rudolphi finished the first half by pacing the Sycamores with 14 points, while Angela Phillips tickled the nets for eight in the opening stanza.
In addition to the hot 3-point shooting in the first half, Evansville was able to score 14 of their 42 first half points off of 11 first half ISU turnovers.
The second half began promising for Indiana State with a bucket by Kelsey Luna on the opening possession, but a 7-0 by Evansville ran the Purple Aces advantage out to 51-33 with 16:52 left in the game.
Rudolphi poured in four more points in the second half to lead the Sycamores with 18 points, while Luna posted eight points in the game, all in the second half.
Kelsie Cooley added four points late in the second half as she received extended minutes.
Evansville has won each of the last three meetings against Indiana State.
The Indiana State Sycamores return to action on Thursday, January 10 when they play host to the Bradley Braves in the Missouri Valley Conference home opener at Hulman Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:05 p.m. (ET).
