LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Indiana State women's basketball program will have to wait another year to earn a non-conference Holiday tournament as the Sycamores fell to host Loyola Marymount by a score of 74-51 in the championship of the LMU Ayers Holiday Tournament.
ISU falls to 3-1 on the season while the Lions improved to 4-2.
The Sycamores were a victim of poor shooting throughout the contest as they managed to hit just 25.0% of their shots in the game. LMU also controlled the rebounding battle, taking down 50 rebounds, including 18 offensive boards as opposed to the Sycamores 48, including 19 on the offensive end.
Indiana State trailed by 14 points at the half, and cut the LMU advantage down to 11 points with just over 12 minutes left, but it was close as they would get in falling 74-51.
The Lions scored 13 second chance points while Indiana State put back in 12 off misses. ISU committed 16 turnovers in the game, which LMU converted into 16 points.
Leading the way for Indiana State was Angela Phillips, who scored 11 points, hitting 5-of-18 shots overall. Maria Olsthoorn scored seven points while pulling down eight rebounds in the game.
LMU was paced by Lisa Helmers who scored 16 points.
Angela Phillips and Kelsey Luna were named to the all-tournament team for their performances over the weekend.
The Sycamores return to action on Thursday, November 29 when they travel to Eastern Illinois. Tip-off is set for 8:05 p.m. (EST).
